The combined entity will now operate under the name Mastery.org. According to Mastery.org, the core mission is to help schools move beyond conventional grades, courses, and seat time to document what students truly know and can do. The Mastery Transcript Consortium, founded in 2017 by Scott Looney, pioneered the Mastery Transcript and MTC Learning Record. These are competency-based digital records designed to offer a more modern and comprehensive way for schools to communicate student capabilities, moving beyond the limitations of traditional grades and GPAs. According to Mastery.org, MTC's work represents nearly a decade of effort to reimagine the high school transcript, fostering a network of public, private, charter, and international schools committed to competency-based learning.

The acquisition brings together MTC's established vision with Legend.org's expertise in using AI to evaluate authentic student work.
