Series 7 Prep: Format & Practice

The Series 7 (General Securities Representative Qualification Examination) is the FINRA license that lets a representative sell a broad range of securities. It has 125 scored multiple-choice questions organized around four major job functions, and requires the SIE exam as a co-requisite. Here's how it's structured — with realistic COSMIQ practice.

COSMIQ prepares you for the Series 7 and administers realistic full-length mock tests — it does not administer the real exam or issue a securities license.

Frequently asked

What does the Series 7 cover?

125 scored questions across four job functions: seeking business for the broker-dealer; opening accounts; providing information and making suitable recommendations; and processing and confirming transactions — spanning equities, options, bonds, and packaged products.

Do I need the SIE exam too?

Yes. The Series 7 is a co-requisite with the Securities Industry Essentials (SIE) exam — you must pass both, and be sponsored by a FINRA member firm, to obtain the registration.
