Frequently asked questions

How is the ACT composite calculated?

It depends on the format. On the Enhanced ACT (2025+), the composite is the average of English, Math, and Reading — Science is reported separately. On the classic ACT, it's the average of all four sections. Either way it's rounded to the nearest whole number, with halves rounded up.

What is an ACT superscore?

A superscore averages your best score in each section across all test dates. A growing number of colleges accept ACT superscores.

Sources and methodology

Enhanced ACT composites use English, Math, and Reading; Science is reported separately. Classic ACT estimates are labeled because forms are equated separately.
