Frequently asked questions
How are plus and minus grades counted in college GPA?
On the standard 4.0 scale, an A- is 3.7, a B+ is 3.3, a B is 3.0, and so on. Each course's grade points are multiplied by its credit hours, summed, then divided by total credits.
Does a higher-credit course affect GPA more?
Yes. GPA is weighted by credit hours, so a 4-credit course moves your GPA roughly twice as much as a 2-credit course with the same grade.
Sources and methodology
The calculator uses the standard quality-points formula. Colleges set their own letter-grade points, +/- treatment, repeat and transfer-credit rules, exclusions, and rounding, so compare this estimate with your registrar's policy.
